KATIE UPSON

About

Direct yet conceptual. Provocative and engaging. Design & illustration for brands, publications, and people.

Originally I studied illustration at Lincoln University. This creative start has enabled me to explore a wide variety of projects and career roles. Beginning by working as a freelance illustrator, being part of the craft fair circuit. While doing this I also held several positions as a graphic designer, working across digital and print media.

Currently based in Norfolk UK, I hold a position in Cambridge as a Graphic Designer. Where I live is also within commuting distance of Norwich, Ely and at a stretch London.

While my design career is an important part of my life, bringing me a sense of creative satisfaction, everyone needs another outlet to relax. I have always loved animals and my current furry best friend Simba has played an important part in keeping my routine varied and healthier. He was adopted from the Lincolnshire Greyhound Trust. To pay them back for letting me adopt him, I volunteer at fundraisers when ever I can, and I have also done some design work for them. Including retracing their logo and creating some posters for advertising.

My ultimate goal is to stop chasing the next role, to reach a point where I have enough experience, and I can find a position that fulfils several of my desires. Those are to have a role which is rewarding, gives back to the world in some way, and gives me a great work life balance, to allow me to recharge and give the job my best. Having worked for a charity previously, this is a sector I would like to explore. Whether it is an animal charity, conservation, or a role that helps a local community. I want to be a creative whose work makes a difference.
